Morocco won't let you ease in gently. From the moment you land, this Northern African country will pull you into its colour, noise, bustling flavors and the warmth of its people. Within a few hours, you'll be completely absorbed in the ancient Arab world. Few countries in the world pack this much history, landscape and culture into one place.
Travelling to Morocco takes you to a country that engages every sense at once. From the moment you arrive in its main city, you are greeted with the smell of spices drifting through narrow alleyways, the flash of vivid tilework inside centuries-old buildings, and the sound of the call to prayer echoing across rooftops. The four imperial cities — Casablanca, Rabat, Fes and Marrakech — each have their own distinct character, but all share the same deep sense of history and culture that makes Morocco such a compelling destination.
Fes is arguably Morocco's most fascinating city. Its UNESCO listed medina is one of the largest car free urban areas in the world, a labyrinth of over nine thousand streets where leather tanneries still operate by hand, craftsmen shape intricate metalwork in dark workshops, and the world's oldest university has been in continuous operation since 859 AD.
Marrakech, on the other hand, is vibrant and theatrical. The great square of Jemaa el-Fna transforms every evening into an open air spectacle of musicians, storytellers and street food, and the city's palaces, riads and the beautiful Majorelle Garden make it one of Africa's most visited cities for good reason.
Beyond the cities, Morocco's landscapes are equally impressive. The High Atlas Mountains offer some of the best trekking in North Africa, with traditional Berber villages tucked into green valleys and trails leading toward the continent's highest peak, Mount Toubkal. To the south, the ancient fortified village of Ait Benhaddou — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — rises dramatically from the earth, while the vast dunes of the Sahara near Merzouga make for one of the most unforgettable nights you will ever spend under a sky full of stars. A camel ride into the dunes at sunset belongs on every Morocco itinerary.

Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry. We recommend checking the latest entry requirements for your nationality before departure, as policies can change.
Insurance A travel insurance is highly recommended when travelling. When selecting a travel insurance policy please bear in mind that we highly recommend good medical coverage and repatriation and emergency rescue. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects.
We don’t issue any insurances; however, we recommend using www.worldnomads.com
Health We recommend you contact your family physician, or your local travel clinic for the most up-to-date health information at least three months before departure or in case of a last-minute tour, as soon as you confirm your travels. Travellers are also advised to carry a basic first-aid kit and hand sanitisers/antibacterial wipes on their travels. Medical facilities are basic throughout these countries. For your own safety, we strongly recommend that you advise your local guide of any medical condition that may affect you while travelling. Your local guide will be able to inform you of local health advisories (e.g. drinking water quality). Please ensure you have all the inoculations recommended by your doctor.
Allergies and dietary restrictions This is something we take very seriously. Upon booking with us, we will send you a form in which you will be able to indicate any dietary preference or restriction or any specific request you might have. We will then provide that information in advance to all the hotels.
Safety and Security Many national governments provide a regularly updated advice service on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your government's advice for their latest travel information before departure.
We strongly recommend the use of a neck wallet or money belt while travelling, for the safe keeping of your passport, air tickets, bank cards, cash and other valuable items. Leave your valuable jewellery at home - you won't need it while travelling. Many of the hotels we use have safety deposit boxes which is the most secure way of storing your valuables. A lock is recommended for securing your luggage.
Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of your group at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for our travellers. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The exploitation of prostitutes is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our local guides have the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they use prostitutes.
Photography and drone laws Please refrain from taking photos of police stations, airports, bus stations, immigration or border crossings, army barracks and personnel, or any government building. It is against the law and will result in the minimum of your film and camera being confiscated. Always ask permission before photographing local people. Regarding drones, all unmanned aerial vehicles require prior authorization from Morocco's National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) before use. Permission is difficult to obtain for short-stay tourists and we strongly advise against bringing a drone without confirmed authorization in advance.
Electricity Morocco operates on a 220V supply voltage and 50Hz. For Morocco, the associated plug types are C and E. Plug type C has two round pins. Plug type E has two round pins with a hole for the socket's earth pin.
Religion Islam is the predominant religion in Morocco. Visitors are expected to dress modestly and behave respectfully, particularly near mosques and during the call to prayer. During the holy month of Ramadan, eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight hours should be avoided out of respect for those fasting.
Climate Morocco has a varied climate depending on the region. The north and Atlantic coast enjoy mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers, while the High Atlas Mountains experience cold winters with snow at altitude. The desert regions in the south are hot and arid year-round. Summers in inland cities like Marrakech can be intensely hot, regularly exceeding 40°C, while coastal cities benefit from cooling Atlantic breezes.
Best time to visit The best time to visit Morocco is between October and April, when temperatures are comfortable across the country. Spring (March to May) is particularly beautiful, with wildflowers blooming in the Atlas valleys and pleasant warmth in the cities. This is also considered high season, as many travellers take advantage of the ideal conditions for exploring medinas, hiking and desert excursions.
Plastic bags Morocco has banned single-use plastic bags. Travellers are encouraged to bring a reusable bag for shopping in souks and markets.
Money and currency The Jordanian Dinar is the official currency. Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping and tipping. We always recommend carrying enough cash if you would like to pay for something in a remote place and the credit card machine cannot connect to any network. Please keep in mind that credit- or debit card payments may be subject to an extra charge of 5%.

Both men and women should keep their shoulders and knees covered when out in public. Women are not required to cover their hair, but loose fitting, breathable clothing is recommended both for comfort in the heat and as a mark of respect. On the beach or by the pool at your hotel or riad, normal swimwear is perfectly acceptable. Comfortable, well worn walking shoes are essential, the cobblestones in the medinas are uneven and you will be doing a lot of walking.
