A 5 days and 4 nights tour throughout the beauty of Indonesia’s most special destination, Sumatra. Once called “The island of gold”. Trek through the beautiful dense rainforest and get the chance to run into Sumatra’s most iconic inhabitant, the Orang Utan.
Day 1: Kuala Namu – Bukit Lawang
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be picked up by your guide and we will drive in the northwest direction for about 5 hours to Bohorok, the Orang Utan center. The route towards Bohorok gives you a great idea of the rural life in Sumatra as you are passing several small towns and vast views of the rubber and palm oil plantations. You will be able to stop at some of those palm oil plantations so you can see it for yourself. If it’s in season you can stop to see local “rambutan” grow and the cacao garden, we will also stop to see a local market in Kuala. After the drive, you will arrive in Bohorok and check-in at the hotel. The rest of the evening is spent at leisure. Overnight at Ecolodge Bukit Lawang.
Day 2: Bukit Lawang
After breakfast, we will start a 3 hrs jungle trekking where we can see the semi or wild Orang Utans. Steep slopes and dense vegetation will bring you to the center of the beautiful Sumatra rainforest. Here you have the opportunity to see several species of indigenous flora and fauna. If you are lucky you may encounter some Orang Utans, leaf monkeys, macaques, gibbons, siamang, and abundant birdlife. After the trekking, you will return back to the hotel. The rest of the day is spent at leisure. Overnight at Ecolodge Bukit Lawang.
Day 3: Bukit Lawang - Lake Toba
After Breakfast, you will drive to Lake Toba via Medan. Again, you will see many plantations, many of them from colonial times. At the end of the day, we reach Prapat from where we take the public ferry to the peninsula of Tuktuk, where our hotel is. Seated in front of your room you have a fine view over the smooth lake and the mountains behind it. At night the lights of Prapat shine invitingly across the water. You will have two days here to look around. Rent a bike and visit the traditional villages of Tomok and Simanindo. The terrain is flat and the climate is cool enough. This is a good place to go for treks as well. The rough mountainous interiors hide various traditional villages. Try not to miss a dinner with traditional Batak songs. The Batak are renowned throughout all of Indonesia for their singing voices and cheerful nature. Overnight at Linnea Resort.
Day 4: Lake Toba
You will have a full day here to explore the beauty of Lake Toba. Lake Toba is one of the many natural wonders of Indonesia. Toba is a perfect place to come, relax and absorb the beautiful pristine scenery. The cool clear water coupled with the relaxed atmosphere and friendly people is what draws visitors to Lake Toba. We offer several different excursions here including biking. Overnight at Linnea Resort.
Day 5: Lake Toba – Silangit / Medan Airport
In the morning you will be driven back from Lake Toba to Silangit International Airport / Kualanamu Medan Airport to catch your flight to the next destination. From Lake Toba to Kualanamu Airport it takes around 5 hours and 2 hours to Silangit International Airport.
