The tour will take you to Lake Titicaca in Northern Bolivia but also to the Uyuni salt flats and everything in between. You will learn more about the culture and history in La Paz and Sucre. A perfect tour for first-timers!
Day 1: Arrival in La Paz
Today you will arrive at El Alto International Airport. Upon arrival, you will be met by a representative who will welcome you and you start your journey to La Paz, which is roughly a 50-minute drive. Upon arrival, you will proceed to Hotel Mitru Sur La Paz for check-in and time spend at leisure.
Day 2: La Paz
After breakfast, you will be heading out to explore La Paz and Moon Valley. During the city tour, you will visit the Plaza Murillo where the Bolivian government is based, as well as an important and immense cathedral and the Presidential Palace. You will also pay a visit to some of the markets, where community healers will offer an array of medicinal plants that ensure good health, luck, beauty, and fertility. You will also have an opportunity to visit two museums on the best-preserved colonial street “Calle Jaén”. Your guide will explain more about the museums. Another fun way of exploring the city will be by the La Paz cable car, which is the largest cable car system in the world. You will enjoy beautiful views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Lunch will be served at Gustu restaurant, which is by far the best high-end dining experience in all of Bolivia! In the afternoon, you will be driven to a special location where you will have a 360-degree view of the city and then, you will visit the Moon Valley, aptly named, this site is unique for its features of lunar-like landscapes and bizarre geological formations. The Moon Valley is not actually a valley but a maze of canyons and giant spires. In the evening you will head back to Hotel Mitru Sur La Paz for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: La Paz - Copacabana - Sun Island
After an early breakfast, you will depart to Copacabana which will take approximately 4 hours. Upon arrival at lake Titicaca, you will take a short walk to your boat which will take you to Sun Island, the place where the Inca empire was born. After the boat ride across Lake Titicaca, you will arrive at the south part of the Island of the Sun. Lunch will be served at the hotel with beautiful views over the lake. After lunch, you will visit the archaeological remains of "Pilkokaina", the Inca Sun Temple. Later, a journey up the Escalinatas de Yumundi, a traditional Inca stair, to get the "Youth Source" or sacred water. It is believed that this is the eternal youth's source. You will also enjoy the beauty of the Incan garden. In the evening, you will be transferred to your hotel where you will get some time to enjoy one of the most unforgettable experiences in Bolivia; the sun setting over the lake Titicaca. Overnight at Ecolodge La Estancia.
Day 4: Sun Island - Copacabana - La Paz
After an early breakfast, you will head off to Copacabana, where you will spend some time visiting the Brown Virgin's sanctuary, where the parishioners go to ask fortune. You will also pay a visit to the colorful local market of Copacabana. In the afternoon you will transfer back to La Paz for overnight at Hotel Mitru Sur La Paz.
Day 5: La Paz - Alcantari Airport - Sucre
In the morning you will be transferred to La Paz airport for your flight to Alcantari Airport, located in Yamparáez, about 45 minutes from Sucre. Upon arrival in Sucre, you will go for a city tour, where you will start at the viewpoint of the Recoleta, arrive at the square “Pedro Anzures”, where the city was founded in 1538. You will also visit the Asur museum, which has an exhibition of fabrics of the cultures and is a project of recovery, promotion, and sale of textiles presenting the most important and representative textiles in Bolivia. You will continue with a visit to the convent of the Order of Franciscans to appreciate the colonial architecture and you will stroll through the colonial streets, the main square “25 de Mayo” and you will end our tour with a visit to the “Casa de la Libertad”, where the republic of Bolivia was born. Before heading back to Parador Santa Maria La Real you will enjoy a dinner show at Origenes Espacio Cultural.
Day 6: Sucre - Potosi - Cayara
After breakfast, you will head out to discover one of the most interesting and particular eclectic buildings of the 20th century in Sucre which belonged to the princes of the "Glorieta". Afterward, you will continue towards the town of Yotala. You will take a walk through the village and taste the bread and typical empanadas of the place, and then head to Cayara for leisure and overnight at Hotel Museo Cayara.
Day 7: Cayara - Potosi - Colchani
After breakfast, your guide will be waiting for you to take you to Potosi which is approximately a 40-minute drive. Potosi is declared by Unesco as a natural heritage of humanity. It is considered one of the richest cities in the world, for the extraction of silver. You will get to know its squares, colonial streets, balconies, gates, and large houses that are full of history. You will also have the opportunity to either visit the Casa de la Moneda museum or the Church-Convent and Museum of Santa Teresa. In the evening you will head to Colchani for dinner and overnight at Hotel Palacio del Sal.
Day 8: Uyuni- Colchani
After breakfast, you will head out to one of the highlights of your tour to Bolivia, the Uyuni salt flats. Start your tour with a visit to the Train Cemetery, the same ones that date from the 1930s approximately. Afterward, you will go to the community of Colchani to visit the artisanal salt factory, and later you will enter the majestic salt flat where you can see how the salt is collected and where you will have some time at leisure. The last stop of the day will be to admire the wonderful sunset in the magnificent salt flat, at the foot of the majestic Tunupa volcano, accompanied by a toast with Andean liqueurs. At 08:00 pm, you will head out for a stargazing tour, to enjoy a night with the stars as you have never seen before. The Uyuni sky is considered one of the clearest in the world although this excursion is subject to changes depending on weather conditions. You will be heading back to Hotel Palacio del Sal for overnight.
Day 9: Uyuni - La Paz
After breakfast, you will head out for your trekking to the summit of Thunupa Volcano, which stands at 17820 ft / 5432 m above sea level. You will start your ascent from the Coqueza community located at the foot of the volcano. When you reach the top you can have a spectacular view of the Uyuni Salt Flat. After your descent, you will visit the indigenous community of Ayque where ruins and "chullpares" or pre-Columbian mummies are kept. Afterward, you will return to Uyuni with a stop at the Incahuasi Island and its incredible giant cacti. In the evening you will transfer to Joya Andina International Airport for your flight to La Paz. Upon arrival in El Alto, you will be transferred to La Paz for leisure and overnight at Hotel Mitru Sur La Paz.
Day 10: La Paz - El Alto
After breakfast check out from the hotel and we will head to La Paz international airport for your departure flight.
